A significant portion of Dr. Stalder’s current practice focuses on treating patients who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and who have undergone mastectomy procedures. Many of these patients choose to undergo breast reconstruction by transferring their own tissue using microsurgical techniques. He has found these to be some of the most rewarding patients to interact with and help through their journey of fighting cancer and ultimately becoming whole again. Breast reconstruction is a technically challenging, nuanced, and personalized process and Dr. Stalder embraces the concept that each patient must be approached as a unique case with unique problems that must be considered in order to achieve optimum results.
With Dr. Stalder’s extensive training and experience in craniofacial surgery, he has also developed a robust facial reconstructive practice that includes some of the most challenging cases in plastic surgery, including reconstruction of the face and jaws following treatment for cancer or traumatic injury.
Additionally, Dr. Stalder performs all varieties of aesthetic surgical procedures of the face, breast, and body with an emphasis on achieving a natural and youthful appearance.

Dr. Stalder is actively involved in advancing the fields of both microsurgical breast reconstruction and complex craniofacial microsurgery. He is currently the Director of Plastic Surgery at the region’s premier academic medical facility where residents in the LSU Plastic Surgery Residency spend the majority of their time in training. He oversees the experience of advanced trainees who have completed their plastic surgery training and then choose to come to LSU for an additional one-year fellowship in microsurgery and directs the robust microsurgical research team at LSU. He has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters that describe the team’s cutting-edge developments in both free flap breast reconstruction and advanced facial reconstruction.
