Tattoo Removal
Tattoo Removal
New, advanced laser tattoo removal technology has made it possible for providers to remove unwanted tattoos more efficiently and effectively than traditional tattoo removal methods. However, challenges such as ink particle size, tattoo color, depth of ink particles, tattoo age, and location all play a role in the speed of clearance and the number of treatments required to achieve optimal results.
How much does tattoo removal cost?
The cost of tattoo removal is dependent on the location, size, and type of tattoo you are wanting to remove, Your physician and laser practitioner will discuss all options available to you during your consultation.
Does laser tattoo removal hurt?
It is often described as the same discomfort experienced when the tattoo was applied – so, yes. However, by using a topical numbing cream or injection and ice during the procedure, the “stinging” sensation is reduced greatly. Afterward, the treated area will be sensitive for 2-3 days, similar to what you experienced upon initial application of the tattoo.
What kind of tattoos can be treated?
-
“Stick and poke” tattoos—a needle is used to push ink into the skin. This is typically the easiest of tattoos to remove, requiring the fewest number of sessions.
-
One color of ink is used and deposited by an electrical device into the top layer of the skin, or shallow. Often performed by tattoo artists who are learning the trade.
-
Multiple indelible ink colors are used and pushed uniformly into the deeper layers of skin (and tissues below) via an electrical reciprocating “needle”. These tattoos are usually the most challenging to completely remove, so multiple treatment methods are incorporated to remove the ink without scarring.
-
A laser is used to remove the darkest inks from a tattoo so that a new tattoo can be applied over the old one. This allows the tattoo artist more versatility in choosing the design of the new tattoo and increases their clients’ satisfaction with the end result. This is a 3-treatment protocol package and can be completed in less than 6 months.
-
Permanent cosmetics (ie. lip liner, eyeliner, brows, moles) can be removed by laser with certain limitations. Discuss the process with your laser practitioner.
-
This type of tattoo is often called “road rash”, where debris, such as dirt, gravel, shards of metal, or glass, is forcefully pushed, or scraped, into the skin and/or underlying structures. This usually occurs during a car, bike, or explosive accident. Small fragments remain in the skin even after medical debridement, causing discoloration and occasionally pain.
